My name is Alexis Martinez, I am a senior at Cal State Fullerton. My major is communication with an emphasis in advertising. My sites name is Music Junkie, which accurately describes who I am and that is a lover of music. I listen to a variety of different genres from different eras that range from Hip-Hop, R&B, Reggaeton, Bachata, Alternative, Country, Rock & Roll, etc. Although I listen to some genres more than others I have a little bit of everything in my music playlist and enjoy listening to it all.

My playlist can go to 90’s R&B to Travis Scott to Bad Bunny in just a matter of minutes. I am a person who loves being diverse and I cant just like one thing and that thing only I have to mix it up. For example, I listen to a lot of Hip-Hop but not all Hip-Hop is the same, I can listen to Kendrick Lamar, J.Cole, and Joey Badass who’s music tell a story and have substance. However, I also listen to Pop smoke & Chief Keef who’s music is more suited for a party or a car ride to the club. I always find myself listening to artist’s who are not that big as far as their star power goes before they actually become well known. Artist that I listened to before they got blew up are Brent Faiyaz, Bad Bunny, UMI, XXXTentacion, J.I. the prince of NY, and Billie Eilish. I have no idea on how I discover artist before everyone else but Im glad I do because generally their music is more genuine to who they are personally and are not trying to make catchy mainstream hits all the time.

Music is always around me, I play it when I am driving, running, relaxing, while doing homework, and like many others in the shower. What I like most about music is that it amplifies your emotions, some songs will get you more excited for a party or encourage you to work out while others will relate to you whether that is through hardships, heartbreak, or the struggle of trying to better yourself. There is a quote that I love that says “Tell me who you listen to and I’ll tell you who you are” and I find that to be so true because you can tell who is sad/heartbroken by what music they play just like you can tell who the life of the party is by the type of music they play. Music has also helped me make friends through having mutual music tastes and especially if that artist or song is still underground or not mainstream yet, it just makes that connection more special.
